Dancing with the Stars

Saturday's assignment took me over to Township Auditorium to photograph Dancing with the Stars Live for ABC Television.

My job was to produce behind-the-scene, group and performance images.

I have a new respect for how hard these dancers prep for the show. Check out the image of Emma Slater stretching her leg before the performance. She is on the floor and puling leg parallel with her body.

The dancers cannot pull a muscle during the show so the workout before the performance is critical.

Jackets get the finishing touches before the show.

The wardrobe team makes their final checks. Dancers change dozens of times during the show.

Underneath the stage is a maze of curtains where dancers hang out before and during the show. Here, the men pose for a promotional photo. Third from right is Bobby Bones, the recent winner of Dancing with the Stars.

The Trip to The Beach Print

If you take the back roads to the beach through Manning, Greeleyville, Andrews and Georgetown, you'll love the new print we're offering.

It captures all the landmarks you'll recognize, including the bombing range, Cooper's country store, the Georgetown bridge and more.

If you'd like to order a framed print, please visit The Frame Shop on Rosewood. Katy is doing a beautiful job of framing the photograph. (See below)

Family History

Remembering my dad on this Veterans Day. At right, is an October 1962 aerial of six nuclear warheads in Cuba pointed at the United States.

My father was one of the photographers who processed the film and made prints from the U-2 spy plane runs over Cuba for President Kennedy to view. The images proved The Soviet Union had installed missiles just 90 miles off our coast.

At left is a photograph of him taken while he was serving in The Air Force in the early 60s.

A Lucky Dude

Happy 5th Anniversary to my wife, Beth!

I proposed to her at Clemson, where she went to school, and on the right is us just after tying the knot in 2013.

I'm a lucky dude.

The Past Meets the Present

Good time making this bridal portrait image as the grip was my dad's, the body was Lavoy Bauknight's and the lens is mine. My dad and Lavoy both ran studios in my hometown, Lancaster, S.C.

Always fun getting out classic cameras for a bridal session. Image ©Travis Bell Photography

Lancaster "Our Stories" Documentary Film - Columbia SC Photographer Travis Bell

What if they shared their favorite stories?

What if their memories came to life?

Are you from my hometown, Lancaster? Or did you grow up in a small town? Even if you didn't, if you love great stories, you'll love this film.

Thrilled to release Episode 1 of my new documentary film about my hometown.

I moved to Columbia 19 years ago but this is something I've been wanting to do for over 20 years.

Lancaster has so many great stories and this film documents dozens of them.

It also focuses on why a small mill town in South Carolina has been able to produce so much talent over the years, including a governor, an astronaut, a band with a No. 1 hit and more.

Excited that IMDB has recognized it as a documentary. Visit the Lancaster "Our Stories" IMDB site here to see behind-the-scenes photos and fun trivia about the project.

Am I leaving still photography behind? Absolutely not. I'll be making pictures as long as I breathe. This was just a fun project I've always wanted to do and a great way to dive into cinema.

Here is the trailer and below is Episode 1.

A special thanks to SEE LANCASTER and BLACKMON INSURANCE GROUP for sponsoring Episode 1.

Fun Plaza - Myrtle Beach SC

Some days I get to work on some fun projects.

A store owner that sells my work recently asked what I have of Myrtle Beach that his customers might like. Pulled this together recently from a couple of trips over the years to Fun Plaza in Myrtle Beach.

I loved these games as I child when we went to the beach. I bet some of them are 40+ years old. I played the baseball game with my dad.

We view hundreds and maybe even thousands of photos a day. The best photos are the ones that stir a memory.

Columbia SC Photographers - The Outback Bowl

Monday's assignment took me to Tampa to photograph The Outback Bowl. It was one of the greatest Gamecock come-from-behind wins I've ever seen.
